<aside> 💬 Inspired by my Masters Thesis, I wanted to continue to explore the effects of OMT on the heart. So, I reached out to the groundbreaking wearable technology company, WHOOPⓇ, to see if we could start a project with their research team.

Their response was overwhelmingly positive and we now have 17 devices for our prospective participants to wear so we can accurately monitor their data.

Abstract:

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) treats the musculoskeletal system by targeting somatic dysfunctions related to tissue texture changes, structural asymmetry, restriction of motion, and tenderness (TART). Heart rate variability (HRV) is a measure of the normally occurring change in time intervals between sequential heartbeats. Certain patterns and magnitudes of various HRV metrics have been shown to correlate with autonomic nervous system balance.1 New wearable technologies such as WHOOPⓇ , allow researchers to continuously measure key biological metrics that pertain to the health of an individual, such as HRV, heart rate (HR), respiratory rate, blood oxygen saturation, and skin temperature. Utilization of said technology for the current study would provide a physiological window of how the body’s autonomics react to an OMT protocol designed to improve autonomic functioning and reduce allostatic load (AL).2 We hypothesize that OMT can improve overall health by improving HRV metrics.

Dear Whoop Research Team,

Hello :)

I am writing to inquire about any current openings you may have. I am a medical student who recently had to take a medical leave from my studies. I have extensive knowledge and experience in the field of Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) and its effect on Heart Rate Variability (HRV), and I am confident that my skills would be a great asset to your organization.

I am eager to learn more about any opportunities you may have and would be grateful for the chance to discuss my qualifications further. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely, [Your Name]
